Updates
Because we haven't updated our blog in forever (bad Cam! bad Ben! *smack*), I'm going to post a few brief updates on what's been going on with us since Halloween. In general, we've been very busy. We've been working on several sizable projects at work since August or September. Some of these are complete or nearly complete, just waiting for some materials from clients or things of that nature.
Thanksgiving was nice this year. We ended up not actually spending it with either of our families. We stayed home, played World of Warcraft, and got amazing food from Sahib, our favorite Indian restaurant.
Christmas was really excellent. My mom gave us a new stove — a very cool stainless steel ceramic-top — which we're really happy with. We spent Christmas Even through January 30 with Ben's family in Floyd, playing videos games (Ben gave me Final Fantasy XII for Christmas, yay), relaxing, and generally having a wonderful time. We were back in Bristol for New Year's Eve, intending to go out with friends or something like that, but the weather was complete crap. Instead we stayed in, made cocktails, and played some more video games.
We hit the ground running the day after New Year's, and ended signing several new contracts right off the bat. Three of these were rush jobs for logos, websites and/or other materials that had to be done this month, so things have been really crazy. This week, in particular, has been intense. On Thursday, I ended up having to work until 9pm. We accomplished a lot, though, and I think we may actually make these crazy deadlines.
In other news, I got a trick new phone a couple of weeks ago. It's an LG enV, and it absolutely rocks. It's got a full QWERTY keyboard, a nice-sized screen with very pretty resolution when it's open, an mp3 player, an actually decent camera, IM, web browser... a whole buncha stuff, really. I'm very happy with it, and I believe we may get one for Ben too shortly.
I also got my navel pierced that weekend. It's sort of weird timing, since I have several more interesting piercings already, and that's usually the first thing people get. I'm sort of backwards. In any case, it's healing nicely and I like it. It's cute, and it will be very decorative when I'm able to get back into bellydancing, which I'm hoping to do in the spring or summer.
The last new thing (actually, it's a couple of things, but they're related) is Ben and I have finally thrown off the shackles of Charter! We had Charter digital cable and broadband for years, and the service is iffy at best. Over the holidays, we got to check out a couple of different people's DISH Network satellite TV, and we were impressed. We'd also been hearing good things about Embarq/Sprint DSL service. So we finally decided it was time to switch.
Thus far, we've been very pleased, especially with the DISH. The picture is actually clearer than what we got with Charter. The menus, fast forward, rewing, etc. are snappy, not slow and sluggish. Things actually work as advertised.
The DSL has also been great, although in order to have it installed, we had to get an actual landline for the first time in years, which is a little weird. We've decided to use it as a business line for our freelance work.
Finally, the Burning Crusade expansion for World of Warcraft came out January 16. Ben was at GameStop at midnight to pick up our copies, and we've been really enjoying it so far. The new areas have tons of quests and things to do, so it's easy to level while actually accomplishing some goal, rather than just grinding randomly for experience (which is very, very boring). It seems in many ways that the folks at Blizzard have been listening to player feedback, and it's definitely improving the game.
I'm sure I've left several things out of this parsimonious little narrative, but hopefully this will catch us up and get us back on track with our blogging.
