Sahib, the best food in the Tri-Cities?
Last night, Cam and I decided to head to Johnson City and go to Stir Fry since we hadn't been there in a while. As we turned into the Franklin Center, we were met with a scene of utter chaos. People were parking on the road and there were dozens of cars bumper to bumper slowly driving around in confusion wondering, like we were, if going to Stir Fry was such a good idea after all.So, we managed to escape the madness and drove back towards Roan Street. As we discussed dining options, we saw a lighted sign in the night similar to the North Star guiding us to fine food. We were only mildly skeptical and certainly overly excited at discovering the new Indian restaurant, Sahib.
Sahib may be the best restaurant in the Tri-Cities. And, soon, they will be the only Hookah bar. Yes, that's right, Hookahs, liquor, and unbelievable food. The service was phenomenal — friendly, funny, and at times highly formal, the owners and staff were welcoming and wonderful. One chef, we were told, once cooked for President Clinton. The same chef gave us the honor of cooking before us a scallop dish. He brough about 8 bowls of spices and another 4 bowls of ingredients and a strong propane portable stove. At one point during his artistic display, flames nearly 3 feet high lept from his skillet, lighting up the dimly lit restaurant and the beautiful (and enourmous) Indian oil paintings.
Last night was one of the most enjoyable dining experiences we've ever had and the food was by far the best Indian food we've ever had. Please, go check out Sahib for yourselves (at the corner of Roan and 26, I think, behind a hotel).
