Living in a new home
What an experience. Moving is never really fun, but this time, it was very different. We were moving from what I hope is the last apartment we will ever live in and into our very own home. God DAMN I've lived in 8 apartments over the last 6 years.Asheville (2)
Kingsport (3)
Bristol (3)
That's 8 moves. Yuck. I hope to stay here in this house for at *least* two years, probably 3-5. Depends on the career, which is going well lately.
I've taken numerous photos that I haven't posted, some this morning of the house, finally finished. Well, not exactly. One thing I realize is that a house is never entirely finished. There is always work to be done on something or other.
It's been emotionally... intense. Really, Sunday was the first day we could really just live our lives and not focus on what had to get done on the house. Yesterday was the first night we came home from work. It's rather surreal, but in a pleasant way. We are so extremely lucky — there are a thousand things that are now improved in my daily life. From the size of the bathtub to the clean floors to our own washer and dryer. All the work we did on the house really feels like we've done it for no one but us. We can do whatever we want to our house — though we do try to consider it an investment. I mean, there is a lingering sense that someday someone else will be living there, but... ah, fuck it — I can't think about that now.
Cam and I had a few arguments, of course, but mostly we both just stuck together and hung on for dear life through the experience. It was rough waiting on the whole house buying experience and I personally didn't believe it was happening until there was a SOLD sign on top of the real estate sign in the yard.
Damn, we did a lot of work. Thanks to Paul for helping move the furniture and much much thanks to Kay for all you've done for us. Thanks to the kitties who have adjusted so well... we covered our new furniture in double-sided tape, ran about policing them for days with a squirtgun and made loud hissing and clapping noises, but overall, they are behaving very well. Cute little fur factories.
Well, I can't wait to get home tonight...
